Being a member of the fund and getting better financial security in case of unemployment or layoff is not a given. Unfortunately, it often happens that people don’t even think about it until they get a layoff notice or lose their job. That is when membership of the unemployment fund would be genuinely beneficial, because the basic daily allowance paid by Kela is significantly lower than the earnings-related daily allowance paid by the unemployment fund. That is why we have launched the Ihan kassalla campaign.

No one is automatically a member of the fund; you have to join yourself. Joining the fund requires initiative, foresight, and an interest in finding out more. With social media algorithms offering instant gratification, it can be difficult to grapple with such topics. That is why we challenge influencers, family members, friends, and acquaintances to educate each other about the benefits of joining the fund. It is like insurance that just needs to be taken care of in time. Fortunately, becoming a member is really easy!
