Read this before you sign
Your employment contract is the most important document in your working life. It’s worth studying it carefully. Here are five things you need to know:
- Always in writing! Make sure you have a written employment contract. This makes it easier to check what has been agreed if there are any ambiguities.
- What did you agree for the trial period? Check whether your contract includes a trial period. During this period, both you and your employer have the right to terminate your contract without notice.
- A fixed-term contract is different from an open-ended contract. As a rule, a fixed-term contract is binding until the end of the agreed period, unless a trial period has been agreed upon.
- Don’t sign anything you don’t understand. You don’t have to sign the contract right away. You can always ask your employer for more time to go over the contract.
- Good advice is easy to come by! If there is something in your employment contract that you are not sure about, contact the legal services. Get advice and help quickly and for free!
